Zen Laughter

The story of Buddha holding up a flower and Mahakashyapa laughing reminds us that silence is not empty of meaning, and simplicity is not poverty.

Open-endedCore: Witnessing

Practice style

  1. Sit and explain nothing.
  2. Hear the sounds around you and see what is in front of you.
  3. If laughter arises naturally, let it happen; if it does not, do not manufacture it.
Do Not Lose the Witness
The method is only an entrance. Whether it uses breath, dance, sound, darkness, sitting, or relationship, what matters most is gradually seeing what is happening rather than only chasing an experience.
