Tathata Meditation

This is a practice of total letting go: do not fight life or rush to change experience. Remain awake while exploring surrender, dissolution, and complete acceptance.

How do I begin this meditation?

Read through the steps once first. During the actual meditation, play the practice audio; if you will practice without internet, download it to your phone beforehand.

Practice style

Step 1

Flow like a leaf

Close your eyes and relax completely. Imagine a strong river; you enter it but do not swim, simply letting yourself be carried like a dry leaf. Experience what it is like not to control.

Step 2

Let the old identity dissolve

Continue relaxing. Using images of death and cremation, see that the body and the familiar 'me' can disappear. The point is not to create fear but to experience not holding on to yourself.

Step 3

Experience tathata—suchness

Let sounds, bodily sensations, thoughts, and the environment remain exactly as they are. Do not demand that this moment be different from what it already is. No resistance—only awareness.

Step 4

Return to the present

Remain quietly for a while, take a few slow breaths, and open your eyes. If practiced at night, you may go directly to sleep afterward.

Suchness Is Not Passivity
It does not mean giving up wakefulness; it means giving up inner resistance. Acceptance happens while witnessing remains.
