Night Meditation

Night Meditation gradually loosens your hold on body, breath, and thought. When all three settle, do not chase sleep or a special experience; keep only a small, clear flame of watching.

How do I begin this meditation?

Read through the steps once first. During the actual meditation, play the practice audio; if you will practice without internet, download it to your phone beforehand.

Practice style

Step 1

Relax the body

Sit with eyes closed and allow the body to release itself naturally. Gradually withdraw control over posture and let the body relax as completely as it can.

Step 2

Relax the breath

Do not control the rhythm. Feel the breath becoming quieter and finer; you simply know it is happening.

Step 3

Relax thought

When thoughts appear, neither follow nor suppress them. Step inward and let thinking slow by itself.

Step 4

Leave only watching

Remain in the quiet. Body, breath, and thoughts are all objects that can be seen, while awareness stays lit like a small lamp.

The Direction Is Still Witnessing
Passive does not mean dullness or suppressing thought. Let body, breath, sounds, and thoughts appear as they are while remaining aware.
