Atisha's Heart Meditation

Practice compassion through the breath: on the in-breath, make space for suffering; on the out-breath, share joy and blessings.

Open-endedCore: Witnessing

Practice style

  1. Inhale: imagine taking suffering and darkness into the heart.
  2. Exhale: offer outward the joy, ease, and blessings you have.
  3. Keep the breath natural; do not turn the practice into a performance.
Do Not Lose the Witness
The method is only an entrance. Whether it uses breath, dance, sound, darkness, sitting, or relationship, what matters most is gradually seeing what is happening rather than only chasing an experience.
